This is a wise move, because beard oils will keep your beard looking at its best.

However, next time you’re thinking about buying some beard oil, you should consider whether it’s actually better to make your own. Contrary to popular belief, making your own beard oil is actually incredibly simple. Plus, you’re guaranteed to end up with a high-quality product and make some substantial savings.

Why Make Beard Oil At Home?

By making your own beard oil at home, you can save a substantial sum of money over time. After all, most beard oils that are ready to purchase are sold as 50ml bottles and can cost anything from £6.99 to £19.99. By purchasing the supplies from us, you can make 3-4x that amount of beard oil for the same price.

In addition to this, when you make your own beard oil at home, you know exactly what’s in the oil you’re using. Sadly, most manufactured products aren’t as sustainable as some providers make out. On top of this, they often include ingredients that wouldn’t be classed as natural or ‘good for you’, such as sulphates, alcohol, formaldehyde, chlorine and phthalates. This is because the pressures of commerce can mean that manufacturers use cheaper ingredients.

So, by purchasing natural ingredients and blending the oil yourself, you can save money and make a product that you know is safe.

How to Make Beard Oil at Home

To learn how to make beard oil at home, we spoke to Jon Higley, who is known as The Beard Mixologist. However, if you prefer a colder and firmer oil, then you can store it in the refrigerator.

The Benefits of Carrier Oils and Essential Oils

Carrier oils and essential oils contain vitamins that provide a number of benefits. Overall, carrier oils do two jobs. Firstly, they ‘hold’ the essential oil or fragrance oil, which has to be diluted before contact with the skin. Secondly and most crucially, they moisturise, nourish and revitalise your beard.

As a result, carrier oils such as jojoba oil moisturise and strengthen hair. This is because jojoba oil is full of vitamin C, B and E, copper and zinc. Plus, it can help with dandruff, hair loss and promote general hair thickness as well.

Similarly, castor oil makes the perfect base for beard oil because of its high fat content. It can help to hydrate the hair, nourish roots and add shine to your hair. When making a beard oil, try mixing it with the eucalyptus essential oil, as this can help accelerate hair growth.

Finally, sweet almond oil is a brilliant emollient that absorbs easily, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth without being greasy. Almond oil is rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. This nourishes and protects the skin and calms skin irritation.

However, before you purchase any carrier oils, essential oils and fragrances, you should carefully check the list of ingredients. This is because some oils are nut-based, meaning they’re not suitable for people with allergies. In summary, growing a beard should never be seen as a lazy man’s option. To look good, your beard needs to be carefully maintained, groomed and sculpted. But remember, although you can buy beard oils on the high street, these are often over-priced and may contain harmful ingredients. So, add a personal touch to your grooming routine by making your own. You’ll save money, gain a high-quality product and receive a number of health benefits.

If you have a long and luscious beard, then you probably use beard oil to help maintain it.
